Health & safety measures during the COVID-19 outbreak

In everything we do, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our customers, drivers and staff. That is why we have put a number of safety measures, above and beyond the government’s advice, in place to protect you during the COVID-19 outbreak.

We give our assurance that we will do everything within our power to continue to offer our regular passenger and parcel service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a-week. Whatever happens, people will still need to get around and we appreciate that many of our customers will not want to travel on public transport.

‘Sole-passenger/designated driver’ service.

To minimise infection risk, we now offer a new ‘sole-passenger/designated driver’ service.

For passengers that travel regularly and wish to avoid contact with multiple drivers, we will assign a driver to them solely. The designated driver will not undertake any other form of passenger work until the threat level has been significantly lowered. Other than staying at home, there is no form of private hire transport available with a lower risk of infection.

It would be preferable if bookings, amendments, etc and general contact, could be made by online booking rather than telephoning us. This can be done via email at bookings@simpsons247.com. This will allow us to spread our workload amongst our office staff and home workers and assist us in providing a continued 24/7 service to you, our customer.

We are monitoring the ongoing situation closely and are adhering to the advice given by the Public Health England, the National Health Service and the World Health Organisation.

With the government asking anyone displaying symptoms to self-isolate, we ask that anyone wishing to make a booking with us ensures that they are symptom-free. Anyone that is displaying symptoms should call 111 and seek their advice.

If any of our drivers display symptoms, they will immediately be withdrawn from service and asked to self-isolate; likewise any office staff will be sent home to self-isolate.

Passenger Bookings

  • We are in the process of installing temporary protective screens in most of our vehicles. As of 2nd June, our fleet of E Class Mercedes have had the screens professionally fitted. We have commissioned the manufacturer to design and produce screens for all of our vehicle types, these will be rolled out in the near future.
  • We regret that we have had to impose a limit to the number of passengers that we can carry, saloon cars can take no more than 2 people and people carriers a maximum of 4. Passengers must sit in the rear of the vehicles.
  • Our drivers will always wear a protective face mask when carrying passengers, with the exception (passenger’s choice) of those working on
    the sole passenger service, throughout the crisis
  • Please feel free to take advantage of the hand sanitiser that is offered to you by our drivers, as much as availability allows.
  • Before and after each assignment our vehicles are aired and thoroughly wiped down using an anti-viral solution.
  • During the current Coronavirus outbreak, all usual perishables (bottled water etc) will not be available in the vehicles.
  • On greeting our passengers, our drivers and coordinators will not offer a handshake for the time being. We are sure that this will not cause offence. They will also open the car doors for their passengers to minimize passenger contact.
  • Our drivers will still offer to assist with their passenger’s luggage; but will understand if the passenger wishes to carry it themselves.
  • They are also washing their hands at every opportunity.
  • All newspapers and magazines will be removed from the vehicles after every journey.

Courier Bookings

Similarly, our couriers will provide the same regular service during their working hours, 08:00 to 18:00, and outside these hours by prior arrangement.

In order to protect both our customers and couriers as much as possible, we will not be handing over our hand-held devices to customers to capture signatures. Our couriers will instead log the name of the person accepting the item. This will apply to all deliveries that require a signature.

If a parcel recipient is self-isolating and unable to come to the door at all, we will contact the booker for advice on how to proceed with the delivery.

All Bookings

The situation is changing rapidly and with that, so can the bookings that our customers make with us. We understand that bookings are susceptible to last minute amendments and will do everything within our power to deal with anything that is asked of us.
